Simple Chicken Coop Out of Pallets

Materials

  • 5 pallets
  • 1 sheet of plywood
  • 2x4 lumber
  • 1 box of screws
  • Chicken wire
  • Staples
  • Hinges
  • Latch

Tools

  • Saw
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Staple gun
  • Measuring tape

Preparation

Find a level spot to build your chicken coop. Remove any debris or obstacles from the area.

Construction

  1. Take apart 2 of the pallets to use as siding.
  2. Use the 2x4 lumber to create the frame of the chicken coop.
  3. Attach the pallet siding to the frame using screws.
  4. Add a plywood floor to the inside of the coop.

Roof

  1. Cut one pallet in half to use as the roof.
  2. Attach the roof pallets to the frame using screws.

Door

  1. Use the remaining pallet to create the door.
  2. Add hinges and a latch to the door.

Windows

  1. Cut out a square hole on the sides of the coop where you want to place the windows.
  2. Attach chicken wire to cover the window holes and staple in place.

Finish

Once the construction is complete, you can paint or stain the chicken coop to protect it from the elements.

Maintenance

Clean out the chicken coop regularly to prevent the build-up of waste and bacteria. Check for any damage or wear and tear and make repairs as needed.
